Menagerie is an 8-bit, Sokoban-like puzzle game developed for the Game Boy Color. Set in a medieval fantasy world of unicorns, dragons, and gnomes, the game follows a sorcerer's apprentice, who, having fallen in love with a captive princess, must rescue her from his master's menagerie of fantastic beasts.

Moving through the dungeons deep beneath the castle, players are required to sort a variety of monsters into their correct positions in order to progress from room to room.

The FREE demo version, playable here in the browser or as a downloadable ROM file, contains:

  • Opening cinematics
  • The first eighteen levels
  • Five fantastic beasts, including their bestiary entries
  • Helpful gnome advice

This is great! Following for updates on the full version.

I only encountered one bug: I was able to get the phoenix and the dragon squished into the same tile at one point.

Thank you! And that's not a bug I've encountered before. Do you recall how it happened, or in in which level?

On level 7 I used the phoenix to block the dragon from being pushed, then tried to move the phoenix. When the cursor is moved, the dragon takes the space of the phoenix and can trap the cursor. If you then cancel the phoenix movement, they will be stuck on the same tile with no way to get them apart.

Ah, thank you very much for posting that screenshot. I know exactly what's causing that... will get it patched ASAP
